How “American Idol” Can Help Your Job Search
Length 13:45
Love it or hate it, everyone’s familiar with American Idol. Whether you like the contestants or not, you probably know that it’s now down to the two Davids.
The AI series refuses to die. It’s become an icon, both here in the US and in domesticated versions in other countries.
Although it serves as a role model for massive brand recognition in its own right, it has lessons to teach all of us about the importance of personal branding and knowing who you are.
These are great concepts to use to your advantage when looking to win a good job.
OK, even though the current crop of wannabe American Idol finalists has been a sorry lot compared to years past, the message remains loud and clear. Know who you are and develop a personal brand to trump those who have more talent or other advantages.

Watch next week’s finale to see who best learned and applied these lessons.
I couldn’t resist, and also included (see above) the interview I did with George Kilpatrick from WSYR radio in Syracuse. We talked about the Idol experience and how it showcases textbook examples of do’s and don’ts in your job interview. It was all in fun, of course.
Happy hunting.
